Accredited Degrees Online - What to Watch Out For

Types of Accreditation - There are a few different types of accreditation when it comes to accrediting colleges and universities. There are two main types to be concerned with.

One is national accreditation and the other is regional accreditation.

National accreditation is easier to obtain than regional accreditation.
A school who lacks regional accreditation lacks full credibility and classes taken there may not transfer to a school with regional accreditation.
When seeking a degree online, it is even more important to research the accreditation of the school before you commit. Online schools pop up all over who are not fully accredited but offer you degrees that are essentially worthless. Financial Aid - Financial aid is affected by accreditation because schools who lack proper accreditation will not be able to offer their students federal financial aid.

They will only be able to offer private loans in order to finance the students education.
It's important to find out these facts before you start school.

Private loans over time, because of the higher interest rates can end up costing more money over time than federal financial aid loans. Look For Schools Under Investigation - Some schools claim to have full accreditation but don't really.
There are lists posted online of schools who are known to be fraudulent and others who are under investigation.

Make sure the university or college you are interested in is not listed there. A quick search online will yield results on which schools are fraudulent and under investigation.
These may be tedious details to look for, but you will be grateful you did when you have a degree that you can be proud of, as opposed to one that actually makes it harder for you to gain employment or get accepted into higher education programs.
