What to Do When Your Computer Freezes

There are several reasons why a computer suddenly freezes up and stops running.

But before you panic once it happens, you should get yourself acquainted with some useful ideas on what to do in case it happens.

To avoid loss of important data, make it a habit to save your work often.
Click the save button once in a while to be sure that your work is saved. This way, if your computer freezes unexpectedly, you won't be pulling your hair out trying to retrieve the lost data which may be lost forever.
You can also try pressing Control, Alt, Delete simultaneously to fix a frozen computer.

This action brings up the Windows Task Manager which may appear differently depending on the Windows version.

The computer will notify you about which software is responding and which ones are not.

For applications or software which are vulnerable to freezes, you can click the end task.

You can also press Control, Alt, Delete again to shut down the computer, if Windows is still not responding.

Another way is to pull out the power cord and leave it for a while.
This way, the computer can repair and rest itself once it freezes. Afterwards, turn on the computer and gradually open the software. If you like to run several different applications at a time, this may be the cause why a computer suddenly freezes so it would be better to run only about two to three programs simultaneously.

If your computer is seemingly overheating, you can also use a blow-off duster on the fan region while the computer is turned off.

Alternatively, you may opt to seek professional services to check up the source problem as it could be related to the motherboard or power supply which needs repairing.
Use a different browser if your computer freezes while you're using a certain browser.
Furthermore, avoid visiting those sites which cause your computer to freeze.
Run a full scan on your computer to detect viruses or spyware which can be the cause of computer freeze. Delete the detected viruses upon completion of scan.
